About me
Helena Venables
Dip Psych Couns, MBACP
I am a professionally trained counsellor with a Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling and a Registered Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).
My three-year Diploma training took place at Chichester Counselling Services in West Sussex and I was awarded my Diploma in June 2012.
I have had counselling myself, both as part of my training and during personally challenging times in my life. As I discovered, starting counselling can be daunting and I have great regard for the trust my clients place in me when they share their experiences.
My work as a counsellor includes but is not limited to helping clients with anxiety; bereavement; depression; grief; loss; low self-esteem; relationship problems; stress; suicidal thoughts; trauma; and work issues.
I grew up in rural Warwickshire, have lived in London and West Sussex, and now live in mid-Wales where I have been based for 12 years. In my mid 50s I have experienced a number of challenging personal life events, understand the pressures and worries of everyday life and their impact on mental health, and can bring my varied life experience to my counselling practice.
Prior to counselling I worked for London-based media companies, and then as a freelance in media and public relations. In addition to private practice counselling, I am a Hywel Dda Health Board volunteer, a director of a business based in mid-Wales, and a Trustee for a local charity.
