How counselling can help you

Counselling, also called psychotherapy, is a confidential and non-judgmental talking therapy. Counselling provides a safe space for you to talk to a trained professional about the issues you are facing.

Only you can decide whether you wish to try counselling, but talking to someone impartial, who is not a friend or family member, can make all the difference. A counsellor can help you develop better ways of coping with problems, allowing you to move forward and get the most out of life.

Your counsellor will not give opinions and specific advice or prescribe medication. They will help you explore your thoughts, feelings and behaviours and find your own solutions, such making effective changes in your life or finding ways of better managing the challenges affecting you.

Counsellors can help with a wide range of issues including anxiety, stress, depression, feeling overwhelmed, isolation, bereavement relationship problems, work worries, and personal development.

Your counsellor will work closely and sensitively with you at all stages of the counselling process. They will enable you to express your thoughts and emotions without becoming emotional themselves and will use empathy, support and guidance to help you regain balance in your life.
