How I work
My method of counselling is to provide a warm, friendly and safe space for you to explore the challenges you are facing. I will not judge you, no matter what you bring to the session, and will work closely with you to build a mutually trusting relationship that gives you the freedom to disclose and discuss whatever is troubling you.
I use a person centred approach which means your counselling is led by you, not directed by me. You retain control over the content and pace of the counselling sessions in the knowledge that you are not being evaluated or assessed in any way.
This way of working is underpinned by the psychodynamic model of counselling. This means that how we think, feel and behave as adults can be influenced by earlier experiences and events. For some clients, exploring these experiences will bring greater understanding to patterns of behaviour that negatively impact their lives today.
As a Registered Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) I abide by the 2018 Ethical Framework for the Counselling Professions. You can find more about this on the BACP website here.
It is also a requirement of my BACP registration that I undertake monthly supervision, a specialist form of professional mentoring. This gives me the opportunity to reflect on all aspects of my practice to ensure I work as effectively, safely and ethically as possible.
I regularly undertake Continuing Professional Development by attending further training and courses in order to update my counselling knowledge and skills.
